A look at the construction of the new Transport for London Elizabeth Line (Crossrail) station.
The new ticket hall will open this autumn, before the opening of the Elizabeth Line, serving the existing tube and overground lines. Running alongside the ticket hall will be a new pedestrian throughway, offering a new north-south shortcut. Elizabeth Line services are scheduled to arrive at the station on 9th December 2018.
Sedum plants will cover the roof of the new, larger ticket hall, providing benefits to local air quality, noise, water management and a habitat for wildlife.
A series of colourful collages that will be fixed to the arching platforms 30 metres below street level. ‘A Sunday Afternoon in Whitechapel’ is a new art installation by local artist Chantal Joffe.
